Liberty requires permits for all structural, electrical, and plumbing work. The Planning & Development Department processes residential permits, and inspections are mandatory at each phase.
If your home is in a designated historic district near the Square, exterior changes may require a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Heritage Commission. This applies to windows, siding, and any visible additions.
The most common mistake we see in Liberty? Homeowners hiring unlicensed contractors who skip permits. When you sell, the title company flags unpermitted work—and you’re stuck paying to bring it up to code.
